Our Story

Our Story

Established in 2017, Swadhyaya Yoga School (SYS) is an Affiliate Yoga School with Rishikesh Yog Peeth in Rishikesh, India.

Swadhyaya (pronounced svadh-yah-yah) is one of the five Niyama (virtuous observance of self) from Patanjali’s Yog Sutras, and connotes introspection and the "study of self.” This sanskrit term can be literally translated to mean “self-study.”

SYS traces its roots to Rishikesh Yogpeeth*. Founded in 2005, Rishikesh Yogpeeth is the brainchild of two visionaries who pioneered the first yoga teacher training school in Rishikesh, India, designed to preserve the ancient and traditional values of yoga.

SYS is founded with a strong conviction to share the traditional experience of yoga and the intention to guide students along the path of holistic, healthy living — mentally, physically, spiritually — while exploring various exotic destinations across our amazing planet. We live in a technological era where everything seems to be automatic except for our happiness. Through yoga, we can obtain the tools to explore our full potential and experience bliss.

Our strength lies in distilling the essence of ancient yogic wisdom into clear and simple teachings that can be easily understood and applied. The continuing support and repeat visits from our students is heartening proof of the effectiveness of this approach.

*Rishikesh YogPeeth, a yoga school registered with Yoga Alliance, USA, conducts 200-, 300- and 500-hour residential hatha yoga teacher training programs worldwide, yoga courses for beginners and yoga retreats in Rishikesh, India (a spiritual town nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, also known as the yoga capital of the world).
